What is NAS100?

NAS100 is a CFD on the Nasdaq 100, the index of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange.

NAS100 point value and contract size

On NAS100 one point is a move of 1.0 in the index level. The preset for 1.00 lot is $1 per point, so 0.10 lot is $0.10 and 0.01 lot is $0.01 per point. Some brokers set 1.00 lot of NAS100 to a different amount per point, which is why the calculator lets you type your own tick value.

How to calculate NAS100 lot size

The calculator uses one formula on every market: lots = risk money ÷ (stop in points × value of 1.00 lot per point).

Example: a $10,000 account risking 1% ($100) with a 50 point stop on NAS100: $100 ÷ (50 × $1) = 2 lots.

Double the stop and the lot size halves, with the same $100 at risk. That is the whole point of sizing from the stop instead of picking a lot size first.

How to use the NAS100 lot size calculator

  1. Enter your account size and pick your account currency. Live FX rates convert the result if your account is in another currency.
  2. Set the percent of the account you accept to lose on this trade (1% is a common default) and your stop loss in points, measured from entry to stop on the NAS100 chart.
  3. Check Tick value in MT4 Market Watch, Specification for NAS100. If it differs from the preset, type it in, then read Lots to open and round down to your broker's lot step.

Common NAS100 position sizing mistakes

  • Copying another broker's lot specs. NAS100 contract size and tick value vary by broker, so a lot size from a forum post can be far off on your account.
  • Confusing points with price. On NAS100 one point is 1.00 of price; check how your broker displays it.
  • Picking the lot size first and placing the stop where it fits the lot. Place the stop where the trade idea is wrong, then size.
  • Forgetting spread and slippage. The stop can be hit before price reaches your level, so leave a margin or risk slightly less.
